At JShaw Design, our goal is to make unique, heirloom quality pieces that contribute to the history of furniture design. We aspire to be among the long line of legendary woodworkers who have added beauty to people’s homes for millennia.
I believe there is a symbiotic relationship between trees and humans and that it is my obligation to bring out the natural beauty of a tree. Indeed, I feel there is a spiritual aspect to my work and that I am doing a disservice to a tree if I don’t use it for something beautiful.
People often ask me when I first knew I wanted to be a furniture designer and builder. It was while at furniture school, I had a design in my mind for a jewelry box I wanted to make for a friend. I drew my idea on paper and then built the box from my paper plan. The jewelry box went from mind to paper to reality. That was my “epiphany.” I realized that whatever I could think of, I could make. It just had to be planned out. And I knew that was what I wanted to do.
When we work with clients, we aim to help them achieve their vision and offer ideas and tools to create what is in their minds.
